Participatory design sessions

Participatory design is a design approach that attempts to actively involve all the stakeholders in the design process. A common method for involving external participants is organizing participatory design sessions. Participatory design sessions can be combined with other interaction design methods such as scenario-based design. Discussing the scenarios in a participatory design session can help to get a better understanding of users’ current experience and expectations towards the designed system.

Typical participatory design session with scenarios involves 2…3 participants and a design researcher. A two hour session is enough for discussing 3…4 scenarios. For detailed guidelines on organizing a participatory design session about the scenarios see the following guidelines:
